PUTNEY -- Sandglass Theater’s Voices of Community Series kicks off on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m., with poet/theater artist Lenelle Moise and her one-woman show "Womb-Words, Thirsting" at Sandglass Theater. This is a collaborative presentation by Sandglass Theater, the Next Stage Arts Project, and Green Mountain Crossroads.
Tickets are $16, $13 for students and seniors, and can be reserved by contacting Sandglass Theater at 802-387-4051 or email@example.com.
Mixing a brew full of womanist Vodou jazz, queer theory hip-hop, spoken word and song, "Womb-Words, Thirsting" is an interactive performance of patchwork poetic storytelling delivered, slam-style, from the gut. With just a cube, a loop machine, theatrical verve and a whole lot of nerve, Haitian-American solo performer, Lenelle Moïse, re-conceives memory, dances revolution and reclaims F-words.
"Womb-Words, Thirsting" is an illuminating, empowering and hilarious evening of theater about growing up immigrant, working-class, politicized and queer(ed).
This marks the ninth year of Voices of Community: A Performance Series on Diversity. In co-presenting Lenelle Moïse with Next Stage and Green Mountain Crossroads, this year, these three local organizations aim to further the reach of this artist’s rich work in our local communities.
While in residency, Moïse conducted workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday for the community, at Next Stage.
Through the development and operation of the Putney Historical Society’s 1841 building, and wide-ranging events and programming, the non-profit NSAP is committed to enhancing the village of Putney as a culturally and economically vibrant rural town center. Green Mountain Crossroads supports the rural LGBTQ community in becoming stronger, healthier and more visible in the local tri-state corner. Performance and the arts are a strong aspect of GMC’s community-building work.
This presentation is made possible by funding from the National Performance Network and the Vermont Community Foundation.
