BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro Area Hospice presenting the Cherished Goods Auction on Saturday at the VFW on Black Mountain Road.
There will be many interesting auction items to bid on. And, similar to last year’s added feature of chairs specially designed by local artists, this year another creative, artistic event has been added to the evening with specially selected mirrors available for bidding.
These mirrors were refurbished, hand-painted, and otherwise embellished by local artists among whom Kris McDermet, who works in fiber co-opting with her sister Lynn Hoeft whose medium is watercolor; Ron Karpius, who paints and does metal work; Janet Picard and Jacqueline Perry, mother and daughter painters; Marta Bernbaum, glass artist; Sharon Myers, master chef and fiber artist; Ron Demers, woodworker; Lauri Richardson, mosaic artist; and Jen Wiechers, painter and mosaic artist.
Their beautifully finished mirrors, all works of art themselves and functional to boot, will be available for auction at the November event.
The event starts at 5 p.m., with the serving of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails (cash bar) and a preview of items featured in the live auction (which starts at 6 p.m.).
During this time and throughout the evening, guests are encouraged to bid on the many interesting items in the silent auction which include a number of donated services. The silent auction articles range in value, so there is something for every budget.
The live auction with Kit Martin features high-quality, antique and good condition furniture, jewelry, paintings, china, glassware and decorative items in addition to the interesting and artistic mirrors. An interesting addition this year is a selection of ‘60s collectible comic books. There is also a stay in an Italian villa and an African photographic safari for bid in the live auction. In addition, there is new sports equipment.
For a partial list of items, visit www.brattleborohospice.org where you can also find photographs of some of the artistic mirrors along with information about the artists.
All proceeds directly support the hospice care and bereavement services that are provided completely free of charge in our community by Brattleboro Area Hospice.
Tickets are $20, and can be reserved at 802-257-0775. Tickets will also be available at the door.
