Shea Theater hosts free night of music

TURNERS FALLS, Mass. -- On Tuesday, Dec. 31, starting at 7 p.m., the Shea Theater will present an all-ages concert and dance in celebration of New Year’s Eve, and the reopening of the Avenue A Bridge between Turners Falls and Gill. The event is free.

The evening starts at 7 p.m., with a young people’s show by Bill Shontz.

At 8 p.m., trombonist Ed Byrne leads a jazz set accompanied by Juke Joint Jazz. Shontz will join in.

At 10 p.m., the celebration shifts gears to an all-ages dance party with Northampton-based funk/Afrobeat favorites, Shokazoba.

Arts Block features John Sheldon, Samirah Evans

GREENFIELD, Mass. -- The Arts Block presents Dance Your Way into 2014, a New Year’s Eve starting at 8:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and featuring John Sheldon and Blue Streak, plus Samirah Evans. This year they will also be joined by Peter Levesque, the Boston-area saxophonist who has performed with Evans many times since she moved to the area from New Orleans.
