It turns out that you can indeed be too drunk to ride the train. Washington transit officials released a video compilation showing several drunken people falling over railings and stumbling onto the tracks or other narrow areas, in hopes of deterring other riders from riding drunk.
In the last two months, enough drunken people have fallen into the Metro system in Washington, D.C., that Metro authorities are asking riders to be careful on New Year's Eve, and maybe consider taking a cab if they can't stand upright.
“The point here is that there is such a thing as too drunk to be on Metro,” Metro spokesman Dan Stessel told the Washington Post. “If you are unable to walk properly, maintain balance and exercise good judgment, you are better off taking a cab or having someone who hasn't been drinking drive you, for your own safety.”
Of six recent incidents, two have happened in the last week. No one has died from their stumbles, but several have been sent to the hospital.
