BRATTLEBORO -- The Arts Council of Windham County is inviting the community to join them in recognizing and honoring the young people in Windham County who are involved in a wide range of the arts.

So, for the 34th consecutive year, ACWC has set aside March as Student Arts Month, a time to spotlight, through shows and events, the work coming from young people and the teachers and school programs which help these young artists to blossom.

Festivities will begin at Gallery Walk, on Friday at 5:30 p.m., with a concert by The Snaz, at the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro, 17 Flat St. A young indie rock band with all original songs, the Snaz is fronted by three girls and a male drummer, all from Brattleboro Union High School. There will be refreshments and two-dimensional art on view.

The high school photography exhibit will be at In-Sight Photography on Flat Street and three-dimensional pieces will be shown at Vermont Artisan Designs Gallery 2, 106 Main St., both with openings during Gallery Walk.

In March, the public will have the chance to vote for favorite works at each venue; all three shows will be open through March 31. An award ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m., at the Brattleboro Boys & Girls Club.

Visual art made by pre-high school students, will be on view at the Brooks Memorial Library and in storefronts and businesses in Brattleboro and other towns in Windham County from March 1-31.

And as for other kinds of art engaged in by area students: music, drama and dance performances will take place at venues around the county -- a listing will appear weekly in the Thursday Brattleboro Reformer and will also be posted on the Arts Council of Windham County’s web site: www.ACWC. us.

Student Arts Month is organized and presented by The Arts Council of Windham County, an all-volunteer organization that has worked to strengthen the environment for artists and arts organizations in the area for 39 years.

Student Art Month is sponsored in part by Brattleboro Savings & Loan, Brattleboro Reformer, C&S Wholesale print shop, and Vermont Artisans Design and Gallery 2.
