GRAFTON -- The Springfield Community Chorus, directed by Kenneth Olsson, will singing a spring concert featuring songs of inspiration, hope and freedom at the Grafton White Church on Saturday at 7 p.m., and at First Congregational Church UCC, 77 Main St. Springfield, on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The moving strains of "Hear my Prayer" by Moses Hogan, opens the concert and sets the tone for a presentation of songs born in the heart of a slave set free. Lyrics filled with hope and inspiration will lift the spirit and restore one’s faith in humanity and divinity. The concert will provide traditional spirituals, such as John Rutter’s "Down by the Riverside," "Ride the Chariot" by William Henry Smith, and some inspirational songs such as Linda Marcus’ "There’s a River in Judea," and "The Lord is my Shepherd" by Howard Goodall that viewers of the BBC series "The Vicar of Dilbley" will recognize.
Admission is free, with donations sought. Both concerts are handicapped-accessible. For more information, e-mail Harriet at email@example.com.
