BRATTLEBORO -- Company of Muses, in association with Brattleboro School of Dance, present "Passage" on Friday through Sunday at the New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat St.
"Passage" brings together current students, staff and alumni in a program of 14 pieces choreographed by Brattleboro School of Dance faculty. Evening performances take place at 7:30 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, with a Sunday matinees at 4 p.m.
As has become the tradition each spring, the performance showcases the variety of disciplines taught by the school to dancers of all ages. Contemporary ballet faculty Mucuy Bolles will debut two newly choreographed pieces, "The Butterfly" and "Insomnia," while Mike DiFilippo will re-stage "cherish the roses," a Viennese waltz. Robert Royce and Jesse Tidquist will stage traditional ballet variations from "Sleeping Beauty" and Royce's choreography of the "Garland Waltz." Nan Mann's troupe of younger dancers (age 7-11) will tell the story of "The Ugly Duckling" to music from "Swan Lake." Other selections each evening will feature modern, jazz and tap genres.
Tickets can be purchased at www.BrattleboroSchoolofDance.com. Admission is $15 general and $12 for students and seniors.
Company of Muses uses the proceeds from the performance for the Brattleboro School of Dance Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to underserved families in the community. Company of Muses is a non-profit whose mission is to provide for the education in the performing arts of youths and adults in the New England area, primarily but not exclusively through Brattleboro School of Dance. It does this through the Brattleboro School of Dance Scholarship Fund, as well as a new scholarship for dancers graduating from high school and continuing their training in a higher education or pre-professional setting. The Kathleen Keller Higher Education Scholarship will be awarded for the first time this Spring. Donations to Company of Muses can be made through www.CompanyofMuses.org.
