BRATTLEBORO -- On Thursday, June 12, starting at noon at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden, Brenda Siegel, the artistic executive director of the Southern Vermont Dance Festival, will host a preview of the second annual festival, which is scheduled for July 17 through 20. There will be an update on the featured events as well as dance performances by Donlin Foreman, principle dancer with Martha Graham from 1977 to 1996 and co-founder of the Buglisi/Foreman Dance, and Alisa Hauser, who has danced on Broadway in Disney's "Beauty and The Beast," "Grease," and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
"There will be over 100 different classes throughout the weekend," said Siegel, who lost everything in Tropical Storm Irene. Displaced for months, she vowed to create a festival that would help rebuild businesses by creating a buzz and bringing folks to town.
From professionals to dance enthusiasts, from the belly dancer to the ballet dancer this is an opportunity to take classes with world-renowned faculty. There will be a variety of classes offered including Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary, Modern, Horton Technique, Graham Technique, Luigi Technique, Gaga Style, Dunham Technique, Eric Hawkins Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Contact Improvisation, Composition and many more.
In addition the festival is offering bonus styles including Belly Dance, Afro Jazz, Tap, Budoh, Yoga and Pilates.
Classes will be led by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Navarra Novy-Williams, Donlin Foreman, Mucuy Bolles, Adrienne Hawkins and many more world renowned faculty.
