The West River Montessori School would like to thank everyone who attended our first Annual Silent Auction Wine and Cheese Benefit! A big thank you goes to the Logan family at The Red Fox Inn for hosting the fantastic event. And especially, the parents at WRMS that helped make this fundraiser a huge success!
The door prizes added allot of fun and instant gratification. While some of the wine and all of the cheese was from Vermont! Along with the excellent collection of items, there was an eager and connected group of neighbors, alumni, grandparents of Montessori kids, friends and even a couple students and recent graduates! We hope to see you next year for another lively and charitable evening.

The Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition (BAPC) would like to thank the businesses that participated in the Responsible Beverage Service Trainings held in December co-sponsored by the Department of Liquor Control.
BAPC recognizes the important role that local retailers and restaurants play in preventing underage drinking. Thank you to the following businesses for participating in the training: Anchor Seafood, Backside Cafe’, Bromley Sun Lodge, Elks Club, Fat Franks, Grain and Grinds, Happy Valley Brewery, Hermitage Inn, Neighbor’s Mobil, Kipling’s Restaurant & Pub, Last Chair Bar & Grill, Mama and Paper Z’s Family Restaurant, McNeill’s Brewery, Polish-American Club, Silo Restaurant, World’s Most Delicious, Avenue Grocery, Beverage Discount, Brattleboro Food Co-op, Brattleboro Mobil, Chadwick’s, Family Dollar, and Indo-American Grocery.
Sixty-one employees of retailers and establishments that serve or sell alcohol and/or tobacco attended the trainings. Congratulations to our winners from Brattleboro Food Co-op and Silo Restaurant who each won a $25 gift certificate in the trainings’ raffles!
Sponsoring the Responsible Beverage Service Trainings is part of Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition’s comprehensive approach to increase collaboration with local retailers to reduce and prevent underage use of alcohol and tobacco and sales/service to intoxicated customers in our community. Other retailer projects include the Brattleboro Responsible Retailing Project (helping licensees prevent underage alcohol sales and sales/service to intoxicated customers); and the Healthy Retailers initiative which encourages healthier food and beverage choices and discourages tobacco and alcohol use among youth.

The Community Christmas Fund at Immanuel Episcopal Church in Bellows Falls was started in 2011 to help families in need put holiday meals on their tables.
For Christmas 2011 we raised over $300 mostly from church members giving their loose change on Sundays throughout the year. Last year, we helped five families through the Bellows Falls Middle School with gift certificates from Lisai’s market.
This Christmas, thanks to the generosity of 16 local businesses and many individuals giving spare change, we raised over $1,000. Through contacts at the Bellows Falls Elementary School, The Bellows Falls Middle School, Westminster Center School, and Walpole Elementary School, we helped 19 families with gift certificates from both Lisai’s and Shaws markets.
This effort would not have born such fruit without the work of one church member, Robert Winter, who took it upon himself to visit businesses and ask for donations. And the following local businesses responded positively: The Bargain Corner, Village Square Booksellers, Walpole Village Salon, Durand Toyota, Westminster Auto, Halladay’s Florist, Canal Street Beads, Works on Paper, Simone’s Styling Salon, Valley Provisions, Coyote Moon Imports, Lisai’s Market, Shaws Market, Diamond Pizza, Country Fresh Flowers and Goods, Mr. G’s Tool Barn.
Thanks to each and every one of these business and the many church members who donated, many more families enjoyed a more splendid Christmas meal this year. I want to thank the 64 donors who attended our Nov. 29 Blood Drive in Bellows Falls to give blood. It is the best Christmas gift you can give.
We want to thank the Bellows Falls Elks BPOE # 1619 for sponsoring this drive, The Masonic Temple for the use of their building and The Bellows Falls Fire Department for putting up our banner. A big thank you to all our volunteers who give of their time to work our drives and the staff from Burlington.
We had 2 new donors. Multi-gallon donors were Arthur Willard, 11 gallons; Jon Rogers, 4 gallons; and Michelle Du Puis 1 gallon.
