PUTNEY -- Three people were sent to the hospital and released after the operator of a Hyundai Santa Fe crashed the vehicle into a tree on East Town Farm Road in Putney on Tuesday morning.

Deputy First Class Melissa Martin of the Windham County Sheriff’s Department said two of the three individuals in the vehicle, including the operator, were minors. The crash occurred at around 9:30 a.m., she said.

According to Martin, the driver was operating with a learners’ permit and had a parent in the vehicle. She said the only reported injury was some bruising on one of the occupants.

The deputy said there was significant damage to the front end passenger’s side of the vehicle and the hood was buckled in. Martin is still investigating the crash.

She said in a telephone interview on Wednesday that it appears the operator got distracted and the vehicle went off the road to the right.

Deputy Samantha Hahn, members of the Putney Fire Department and Rescue Inc. also responded to the scene.
