WEST CHESTERFIELD, N.H. -- The Actors Theatre Playhouse will present its a final Saturday Staged Reading of Jon Robin Baitz’s "Substance of Fire" on July 21 at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are not required. Tickets are $6 at the door.
In "Substance of Fire," the issue for the Geldhart family is the fate of the publishing company that bears the family’s name. Aaron, the son with the business education, is pushing to publish popular novels in order to avert bankruptcy. He summons Martin and Sarah, his brother and sister, to confront Isaac, their tyrannical father. Between them, they have inherited enough shares from their mother to take away his control of the company, provided they can all agree. Isaac is intent on publishing scholarly works on the Holocaust, an obsession linked to his traumatic childhood in Europe. Inside this family fight, Baitz explores modern publishing and media, questioning what is being offered to and read by the public.
Baitz is an acclaimed playwright, screenwriter for film and television and actor. His Tony-nominated new play "Other Desert Cities" is currently enjoying a long run on Broadway. He is also the creator of the ABC TV series "Brothers & Sisters."
Christopher Emily Coutant and Michael Fox Kennedy are co-directors for the staged reading. The cast includes Coutant as Marge Hackett. Kennedy as Isaac, Richard Epstein as Aaron, Ben Stockman as Martin and Sara Vitale as Sarah.

WEST CHESTERFIELD, N.H. -- Playwright Theresa Rebeck’s "Mauritius" opens at the Actors Theater Playhouse on Thursday July 26, directed by Sam Pilo.
The title comes from the island Mauritius off the coast of Africa which in its history issued some highly collectible stamps. Into a world of greedy, foul-mouthed collectors and investors steps a young woman, Jackie, played by Emily Seymour, who has inherited a stamp album. The plot thickens when three men become embroiled in plots to secure the stamps. The cast also features Abby Wicker, Mark Ziter, Nick Bombicino and Bob Gruen.
