Women’s Chorus starts Sept. 12

BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus starts on Wednesday, Sept. 12, with an Open Sing for Women at All Souls Church, 29 South St., in West Brattleboro, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

All community women are welcome to join in on this evening of singing together, which is also the opening night of rehearsals for the chorus’ 17th year. The chorus meets Wednesdays, from 7 to 8:45 p.m. after the Open Sing, and welcomes all women and girls over 10 who love enjoy singing. Most songs are taught by rote and by ear, so music reading is not required.

Friends of Music seeks singers for Christmas program

GUILFORD -- Friends of Music at Guilford is seeking singers (especially tenors and basses) for the Guilford Chamber Singers to rehearse for the organization’s 40th annual Christmas at Christ Church program on Dec. 7 and 8.

This year, the singers are performing selections from the a cappella Alfred Burt Carols (1942-1954), which were set to texts by Burt’s father Bates G. Burt and Wihla Hutson as "musical Christmas cards" for friends and family.

Weekly rehearsals start in mid-September at a location TBA in Brattleboro. The last few rehearsals will be in Christ Church at the corner of Melendy Hill Road and Route 5, just a short distance beyond the Guilford Country Store. Springfield Community Chorus opens Sept. 12

SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield Community Chorus, directed by Ken Olsson, welcomes newcomers, from teen years on up. (Full-time students don’t even have to pay the $30 per season dues).

Rehearsals start on Monday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. and continue each Monday night until the Saturday, Dec. 1 concert at 7:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Chester. The second concert is at the First Congregational Church UCC, 77 Main St., in Springfield, on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. Rehearsals take place at the Springfield Unitarian-Universalist Church, 21 Fairground Road .

There are no auditions, but the ability to read music is helpful, and singers must be able to sing accurately. The December concerts will be a cappella and the ability to sing on pitch accurately is important.

Olsson has chosen a program of songs including Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Tomás Luis de Victoria, "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Ives and "Little Drummer Boy" (arr. Katherine Davis) to name a few. For more information, e-mail springfieldcommunitychorus@gmail.com.

Two Rivers Community Choir starts Sept. 9

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. -- The Two Rivers Community Choir begins rehearsals on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. Rehearsals continue on Sundays through Nov. 25.

Two Rivers Community Choir is a non-auditioned choir; no music reading is required. This is the choir’s fifth year bringing multicultural and community song to life, in a nurturing yet inspiring and challenging setting. The choir sings many genres, including contemporary, Renaissance, gospel, shape note and music from the Republic of Georgia.

The choir gives back to the community in the form of fundraising concerts at least twice a year.

This is a mixed choir (SATB); all voices (ages 17 and up) are welcome to join. There is no formal audition, but a requirement to be present at rehearsals to prepare for a performance at end of the semester.
