BRATTLEBORO -- As part of its Art Films After Gallery Walk series, the Brattleboro Museum & Arts Center presents Rachel Cohn’s short animated film on the Brattleboro Pageant of 1912 this Friday at 8:30 p.m.
The Brattleboro Pageant of 1912, which was performed four times between June 5 and 8 at Island Park in the Connecticut River, commemorated the preceding 200 years of life in Southern Vermont. Through 11 episodes in a collective history, the pageant illustrated the growth of this community and its hopes for the future. Using the original playbill and first-hand sources from the Brattleboro Historical Society, Cohn’s short animated film attempts to create a visual document of both the pageant and the history it contained, trying to fill in the missing pieces lost over time and to preserve the narrative of how this community, and country, has evolved in the 100 years since the pageant.
Filmmaker Rachel Cohn, reporter Kevin O’Connor, whose grandmother took part in the 1912 Pageant, and representatives of the Brattleboro Historical Society will be on hand to offer commentary and answer questions.
