WILMINGTON -- This weekend, Wilmington’s Memorial Hall plays host to two fundraising events to help the historic venue recover from damage from Tropical Storm Irene.

On Saturday, at 7 p.m., Circus Minimus presents "The One Man Circus in a Suitcase." Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

On Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., music legend Commander Cody performs. Tickets are $23 and are available at www.wilmingtonconcertgigs.com and at Jezebel’s Eatery, 26 West Main St.

As the founder of Circus Minimus, Kevin O’Keefe has traveled the world for the past 25 years. Before running away with his own circus O’Keefe was an Equity and SAG actor who appeared in stage, screen and film. Nationally he is recognized in his commercials for Pepsi, ATT, McDonald’s, Jeep, Head and Shoulders and more. Visit www.circusminimus.com.

Ever since his wild early days as front man for the Lost Planet Airmen, Commander Cody has been a unique and iconoclastic figure. His special blend of old-time rock ‘n’ roll, redneck country, boogie-woogie and swing virtually defined American roots music. The Commander will delight fans with a mix of new songs and classics from the Cody catalog. Visit commandercody.com.

Another fundraiser for Memorial Hall also takes place on Saturday, when MHCA presents a dinner and a show event titled "Jazz and Blues Standards and Originals."

Beginning at 5 p.m. with a wine, cheese, and fruit social, the evening continues with a four-course dinner and choice of entree at 6 p.m., and the show at 8 p.m. with Samirah Evans, vocalist, and Eugene Uman, of the Vermont Jazz Center, on piano. The event will be held at the Mountaineer Inn, Handle Road, West Dover. Seating is limited to 50, and tickets are $45 per person.

For information, visit memhall.org. Patrons may also order tickets by calling 802-464-8411 and leaving a message or by leaving their name and phone number, and a person will return the call within 24 hours.
