Poetry in Motion returns
BRATTLEBORO -- Poetry in Motion II, a multi-faceted dance event featuring many styles, returns Saturday to The Stone Church, 210 Main St.
Poetry in Motion II is a multifaceted, multidimensional event that showcases dancers performing in many styles including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip-hop and belly dance. In addition, video producer/choreographer/director Anthony Manuel enlisted the help of Jessica Jean Weston and Jacob Alan Roberts of Equilibrium to help transform the production into an incorporation of the healing arts. This production will also feature local artists doing live painting, chair massage, poetry and retail wares from the Equilibrium Studio Gallery.
Pre-show festivities begin at 3 p.m.; dance performance starts at 4 p.m.

Contra dance benefits Rural Vermont
BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Contra Dance will be a benefit for Rural Vermont and will be held on Sunday, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the Stone Church at the corner of Main and Grove Streets.
All dances are taught, no partner is required, and everyone is welcome. A beginners’ lesson starts at 7:15 p.m. Admission is $10-$15 sliding scale for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
Farmer and caller Rebecca Lay will lead the dance, and live music will be provided by Ethan Hazzard-Watkins on fiddle, Anna Patton on clarinet and Andy Davis on piano.
This dance will include treats to keep dancers fueled up, a free raffle for admission to a future dance and the opportunity to learn more about Rural Vermont’s current initiatives.

African dance and drum
workshop is Sunday
BRATTLEBORO -- There will be a special African drum and dance workshop this Sunday at The Brattleboro Stone Church. Special guest teachers Ismael Bangoura from Guinea and Solo Sano from Mali both currently reside in Burlington and teach regularly with Jeh Kulu Dance and Drum Theater.
The drum workshop with Bangoura will be from 1 to 2 p.m., and Sano will teach the dance workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. The cost of the drum workshop is $10 and the cost of the dance workshop is on a sliding scale from $15-20. There will be live drumming from Bangoura and others. All levels are welcome.
