BRATTLEBORO -- The 22nd annual American Legion Band Holiday Concert, co-directed by Bruce Corwin and Raymond Brown, will be presented on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Legion Home on Linden Street. There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be accepted.

The concert will open with "Christmas Declaration" by Robert Smith, directed by Corwin. Following this will be "In The Bleak Midwinter" by Gustav Holst, featuring Dexter Churchill as the clarinet soloist. Next up is "Feliz Navidad." The "Christmas Song" features saxophone soloist Susan Corey, and then the band will "Rock Around the Christmas Tree," before ending the first half with "Fanfare and Procession on an Old English Carol" based on "O Come All Ye Faithful."

The second half, under the direction of Raymond Brown, starts with Leroy Anderson’s classic arrangement, "A Christmas Festival." Next, the band performs a contemporary arrangement of the 17th century English carol "I Saw Three Ships." The band follows this up with an original work by Alan Stein called "Snow Day Celebration." The next selection is an arrangement of John Rutter’s "Candlelight Carol." Following this, the band presents one of Raymond Scott’s best known compositions, "The Toy Trumpet." A James Swearingen original work brings about reminiscing and fond memories in the beautiful and lush composition "A Christmas Auld Lang Syne."

Then it will be time for the audience to join in a good old fashioned Christmas sing-along prior to the band performing the evening’s last piece, Leroy Anderson’s "Sleigh Ride."
