GREENFIELD, Mass. -- Snowed out on Feb. 9, the Arts Block’s Mardi Gras Dance Party & Benefit featuring Samirah Evans & Her Handsome Devils has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 2, at 8 p.m.
Guest artists Evelyn Harris, John Sheldon, Moonlight & Morningstar, Becca Byram and more will join Evans and her band in a good time for a good cause. Proceeds will go to Evans and her husband who were displaced from their home by a Feb. 2 chimney fire.
Evans has been thrilling audiences in the Northeast since moving from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Her repertoire runs the gamut from raunchy blues to smooth-as-silk jazz. Her recently released third CD, "Hot Club," features her band, the Handsome Devils. She also created and hosts the "Ladies in Jazz" series at the Arts Block. Evans has toured Europe, Asia and North and South America as a headliner and shared stages with B.B. King, James Brown, Irma Thomas and others.
"In 2005, my husband Chris and I got married in New Orleans by the lake that six months later would become our indoor swimming pool. Now, two days before our eighth anniversary, we’re living out of suitcases again," said Evans. "And then we get snowed out. This time our Mardi Gras celebration will come off without a hitch. I’m so grateful that every one of us has been so supportive of us."
The Arts Block is at 289 Main St. Admission is $12 online, $15 at the door. For information or tickets, visit theartsblock.com.
