BRATTLEBORO -- The Student Art Month High School Art Shows at Equilibrium, 14 Elm St., and Vermont Artisans & Gallery 2, 106 Main St., will continue to be on view until March 31.
Three judges reviewed works and selected pieces for Best in Show Awards and Special Commendation Certificates in nine categories: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, digital photography, photography, ceramics, sculpture and digital photography books.
Susan Rosano coordinated the judging of the shows along with Kathleen DeMeo and Daniel Kornguth.
This year, the Arts Council of Windham County is inviting visitors to share their views about the shows by filling out a ballot to indicate which pieces of the nine categories in the shows they would select for Best in Show and for Special Commendation awards. The Arts Council of Windham County has sponsored Student Art Month since 1980. For the past 15 years, Marie L. Procter has been coordinating Student Art Month which features an annual art show of works by Windham County public and private high schools, home studios and an exhibit of works by elementary school aged students at Brooks Memorial Library and in store fronts and libraries and schools throughout the county. This year 12 teachers representing 14 schools and homeschool students participated in Student Art Month.
Sincere thanks and appreciation are extended to committee members Susan Rosano and Kelly Urch for help in planning and organizing the show, volunteers Michelle Mahin, John Dimick, Kelly Urch and Jake Alan for hanging the 2-D show at Equilibrium, and to Greg Worden for setting up the 3-D show at Vermont Artisans & Gallery 2.
Thanks to The Grammar School teacher William Chambers, homeschool teacher Michelle Wright and Arts Council Board Member John Dimick. ACWC is also appreciative to Jake Alan for his graphic art design for the Student Art Month posters and show cards; to Nancy Burgess for designing the award certificates; and to Jeff Martin for transporting the boards for the exhibit at Brooks Memorial Library. ACWC also wants to thank Jerry Carbone, librarian director, and the staff at the Library for hosting the show again this year.
The shows at Equilibrium and Vermont Artisans & Gallery 2 and at the Brooks Memorial Library continue through March 30.
