PUTNEY -- Magical Moonshine Theatre of Napa Valley, California, will perform "Tales of Br’er Rabbit" at Sandglass Theater on Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m., as part of the 2013 Winter Sunshine Series of Family Performances.
The tales of Br’er Rabbit and his cohorts come to us from Africa but are now some of the most beloved stories in America. Br’er Rabbit may be smaller than Br’er Fox or Br’er Bear, but he was blessed with a good dose of wits. Everyone is trying to trick everyone else in this collection of trickster tales, but Br’er Rabbit not only manages to survive among the local predator population, he has a pretty good time doing it. Magical Moonshine uses live music, song and fabulous puppetry to bring these delightful tales to life.
Magical Moonshine Theater was founded in 1979 and has performed all over the United States and in 15 countries. The Times of India called their show "enchanting" and Bangkok’s The Nation wrote, "The exciting thing about Magical Moonshine Theatre is its freshness and the feeling that the performance has been planned only for you."
Winter Sunshine curators Bonny Hall and Jamie Keithline recall meeting Magical Moonshine founders Michael and Valerie Nelson at a puppet festival in California 30 years ago. "We were struck by their energy and enthusiasm and loved their approach to puppetry. Thirty years later they still have that same energy and enthusiasm," said Hall.
This is the fourth performance in the 2013 Winter Sunshine Series of Family Performances at Sandglass. All tickets are $8. Reservations are recommended; call the Sandglass box office at 802-387-4051.
