Compass School hosts Student Film Festival

A dozen eleventh and twelfth graders at the Compass School have spent the past six weeks studying films, writing screenplays, and producing their own short films. This week, they are putting final touches on their films in preparation for the twelfth Annual Compass Student Film Festival tonight at 7 p.m. – a culminating event for their filmmaking class.

The students' films are wide ranging and deal with themes such as love, loss, connection – and the romance of pizza. Not all the films are dramas, as students also wrote and produced light, comedic silent films.

The Compass School is located on Rte. 5 just south of Bellows Falls. the event is open to the public, with a $3 suggested donation.

Moth host, storyteller at Next Stage

Next Stage Arts Project presents Peter Aguero, host of NPR's Moth Radio Hour, and Ophira Eisenberg on Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at 15 Kimball Hill, Putney.

Eisenberg, and Aguero join forces for an evening of intimate and hilarious true stories .

The work of Karen Becker at library

Karen Becker will exhibit her mono-prints, watercolors, pastels and oils at the Putney Public Library, 55 Main Street during April and May 2016. This collection of paintings contains some of Karen's favorites from the last 25 years.


The work can be seen in February and March during Library hours: Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.

Goddess Rising: Celebrating spring

On Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vermont Jazz Center, 72 Cotton Mill Hill, belly dancers from across New England will come together for third annual Goddess Rising.

True to the Goddess Rising format, the whole day is focused around some belly dancing opportunities before the night of performances. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., a workshop Goo and Layers with Amity Alize, followed by Participation Mystique and the Ecstatic: Ritual and Transformation with Aria Michaels. Paradise, an exploration and a holistic trinity of techniques and exercise, is at 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. in the same location. The workshops are $25 each or $45 for both.
