BRATTLEBORO >> Director Tony Lechner invites you to join Rock Voices, the area's only community rock chorus, for a summer evening of pop and rock classics like you've never heard them before. The concert will take place at Brattleboro's Centre Congregational Church, located at 193 Main St., on Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The concert features soul music and includes hits from the '60s right up to today, from songs by Otis Redding, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin to Prince and Alicia Keys.
Rock Voices is backed up by a professional rock band whose talented musicians all have local roots: Ross Bellenoit (guitar), Dan Leary (bass), David Tallarida (drums), and on keyboards and making a rare solo vocal appearance, local legend Mitch Chakour. In addition, there will be a horn section, with Pete Grimaldi on trumpet, Nick Biagini on saxophones, and Scott Pemrick on trombone. Add to that the harmonies of Lechner's arrangements sung by a 100-plus voice choir, and you are in for a real treat.
A 50/50 raffle will be held as a benefit for the Brattleboro Early Education Center on Birge Street, a Vermont Parent-Child Center serving the families of Windham County. All families need help from time to time to strengthen the family and nurture children's growth. Early Education Services provides parents and children with a variety of individualized services to match their particular needs and also offers information on other programs and resources within the community.
Seating is limited, so please order your tickets right away from choir members, or online from Brown Paper Tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $8 for students. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
Rock Voices represents the best of southern Vermont and the greater Pioneer Valley: a sense of community, a love of music, and a desire to share their joy and talents with others. But be warned — once you listen to this lively choir in person, you might find yourself signing up to join them next time around.
