BELLOWS FALLS -- Elizabeth Hallett is a therapeutic case manager at Youth Services who is new to the team which provides wrap services for youth ages 10-21 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Hallett sees clients out of Youth Services’ Bellows Falls office at Parks Place.

Youth Services works with youth for up to 18 months as they engage in the transition to independence and self-sufficiency. Run on an intensive case-management model, this program focuses on building awareness and life skills in core areas of housing, education, employment, and health.

"Elizabeth joins Michelle Sacco in working with 10-12 youth on job searches and work readiness, budgeting and money management, how to find and keep an apartment, nutrition, health and cooking and exploring educational options," explained Bianca Barry, case management supervisor.

Hallett has a master’s degree in dance/movement therapy and counseling from Antioch University New England. Most recently she was employed managing the front desk of the Brattleboro Holistic Health Center. She interned at Putney School offering psychoeducation and nutritional education and has led workshops on stress relief through mindfulness and creativity at Marlboro College.

Hallet also interned at New Hopes/New Horizon and Hyacinth Center in Keene, N.H., where she led movement groups and practiced drama therapy and at the Zerka T. Moreno Foundation in Easthampton, Mass., where she facilitated psychodrama trainings.

On the cusp of adulthood, many of these youth reach age 18 without having acquired the skills necessary for independence, Barry explained. "This population faces many challenges; from difficulty in finding and maintaining housing to accessing needed state and local resources. We expect our case managers’ work load will increase due to the stressors that increase with significant economic pressures."

Youth Services also provides rent stipends and landlord advocacy to help transitional youth overcome barriers and maintain safe and stable housing.
