Brattleboro

- Police responded to the Hannaford supermarket on Sunday, Dec. 23, on a report of a retail theft.

Cassandra Cleveland, 27, of Brattleboro, was cited to appear in court at a later date to answer the charge.

- Joel Goldsmith, 29, was cited to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge of petit larceny.

Brattleboro Police received a report on Thursday, Dec. 27, that a male subject was seen breaking into a vehicle on Western Avenue. The subject was later located on Marlboro Road and identified as Goldsmith. It was determined after a brief investigation that he had stolen the property in his possession.

- Hillary Susca-Lopata, 20, of Concord, N.H., and Peggy Lopata, 54, of Brattleboro, were cited for domestic assault following a reported family fight at approximately 1:01 p.m. on New England Drive on Friday, Dec. 28.

Both were cited to appear in Windham Superior Court at a later date to answer to the charge.

- Timothy D. Stockwell, 31, of Brattleboro, was taken into custody without incident on Saturday, Dec. 30, for having an active warrant for his arrest, stemming from an escape charge from the Department of Corrections.

Stockwell was lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department.

Dummerston

- Two 17-year-olds from Connecticut were issued diversion paperwork for possession of alcohol by a person under age 21 following a traffic stop in Dummerston on Friday, Dec. 28.

Vermont State Police stopped a vehicle for speeding at 6:55 p.m. and the operator was identified as Wyatt Lillie, 17, of Wilton, Conn. The passenger was identified as Sean Roberts, 17, also of Wilton, Conn.

During the roadside investigation, it was determined there was alcohol in the vehicle. The alcohol was seized and both Lillie and Roberts were issued diversion paperwork.

Guilford

- A 20-year-old Connecticut woman was issued diversion paperwork for possession of alcohol under the age of 21 following a motor vehicle stop on Sunday, Dec. 30.

Vermont State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle operated by Bethany Gordon, of Shelton, Conn., at approximately 5:27 p.m. Investigation revealed that Gordon possessed alcohol and she was issued diversion paperwork.

- According to police, a case of jewelry was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the driveway of a Guilford Center Road on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Townshend

- A New York man was transported to Grace Cottage Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, Dec. 29.

According to police, Howard E. Ashkenazie, 48, of New York City, was traveling south on Windham Hill Road at approximately 11:57 a.m. when he went off the road and crashed into a ledge and a tree.

It was unknown why the vehicle went off the roadway. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.

- Vermont State Police at the Brattleboro barracks were notified of a two-car crash with no injuries on Route 30 at the Riverbend Market at approximately 1:22 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29.

Troopers learned Katie Barnum, 22, of Townshend, was traveling south on Route 30 when she attempted to pull into the market. At the same time, John W. Morrision, 73, of Brookline, was pulling out of the market. Barnum was unable to make the turn and continued south on the roadway, colliding with the side of a snowmobile trailer pulled by Morrison.

Road conditions were a factor in the accident and an investigation is ongoing.

Rockingham

- The Vermont State Police received reports of 24 motor vehicle crashes between 5:14 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.

There were no injuries reported and not all vehicles that went off the roadway were damaged. Some were able to get pulled back onto the roadway before police arrived.

Several tickets were issued to operators due to traveling too fast for road conditions and failing to maintain control of their vehicles.

Westminster

- Vermont State troopers from the Rockingham barracks investigated a hit-and-run at the junction of the 91 Access Road and US Route 5 on Saturday, Dec. 29.

Investigation revealed that a vehicle, possibly a Toyota Matrix, hit a light pole, causing damage to the pole. The vehicle's operator, described as a man in his mid-20s, left the scene prior to troopers' arrival.
