WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Cares, Inc. board of directors met Jan. 8 at the Westminster Firehouse with Vice President Susan Clifford presiding. The following board members were present: Susan Clifford, Pete Harrison, Heidi Anderson, Don Dawson, Kathy Elliot, Susan Harlow, Miriam Lanata, Sally Ryea, Reggie Borden, Director Ronnie Friedman and Assistant Director Donna Dawson.
Westminster Cares creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community. Support to this care-giving organization is a way for all of residents to take care of local friends.
Meals on Wheels: 22 different volunteers delivered meals throughout the month to 16 people on a daily basis. During December, four different volunteers provided rides for six different people to medical appointments, shopping, or programs for a total of 100 miles.
During December the nurse made five visits to three different homes in Westminster for a total of six hours. Several pieces of equipment were loaned out in December. Several pieces were donated, including an electric wheelchair and an electric scooter. They are available if anyone needs one. Batteries will be needed for both. Also available are walkers, commodes, shower chairs, wheelchairs, and hospital beds. Crutches with arm support are needed.
Meetings attended in December included: bookkeeper, Gazette, Development Director, website, 25th anniversary committee, Senior Solutions, committees and caregiving.
Programs during the December included a Secrets of Healthy Aging session, two yoga classes, 24 Strength Training classes and three Artist in Each of Us classes. Wednesday Walkers meet most weeks at the Institute.
