WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Historical Society’s annual meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Westminster Fire Station on Grout Avenue. There will be a short business meeting, time to purchase final raffle tickets and the drawing for prizes in the annual fall raffle. Light refreshments will be served.
For the program, Patrick H. Cooperman of the Cooperman Fife & Drum Company of North Westminster will be present. It is a local company manufacturing musical instruments of high quality.
The Cooperman Company purchased Maplecraft Mfg. Company (sawmill and wood bending), formerly owned by R. J. Cowing for more than 60 years, in 1988.
The Cooperman Company is known for its manufacture of drums, shells and hoops.
These drums date back 400 years and are used today. The company has been making and improving the designs of these rope tension drums since 1961.
They also manufacture fifes and drumsticks made from exotic woods as well as a line of hand drums and tambourines.
