WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Cares, Inc. Board of Directors met Sept. 4 at the Westminster Firehouse. The program creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community.
Services provided include: Twenty-five different volunteers delivered Meals on Wheels to 17 people, in addition to frozen meals to nine people on Fridays for weekend meals. During June, July and August, 28 rides were provided by seven different volunteers who drove six different Westminster residents to medical appointments, shopping or programs for a total of 469 miles.
During June, July and August the community nurse made 11 visits to five different Westminster residents for a total of 4.25 hours. She also did blood pressure checks at the monthly senior luncheon.
Walkers, commodes, shower chairs, wheel chairs, hospital beds, electric wheelchair and a electric scooters are available for lending. Due to lack of storage, if anyone would like to donate equipment it would be gladly appreciated, but would ask that it be stored until space is available.
Meetings attended included the speaker series, Senior Solutions, nutrition programs, bookkeeper, Gazette, website, various committees, potential volunteers and home visits. Two online webinars regarding grant training were also observed.
Programs included six Secrets of Healthy Aging sessions, 13 yoga classes, many Strength Training classes and 13 Artist in Each of Us classes, as well as outdoor walking.
Many hours of assistance to were given to Westminster residents and their families, working with social services agencies, Senior Solutions, the VA, Friends of Veterans, SEVCA, Red Cross, Adult Protective Services and the Visiting Nurses.
