BRATTLEBORO -- Ryan Chase, a Vernon senior, has been named the January 2014 Windham Regional Career Center Student of the Month. Ryan was nominated for this award by Jennifer Connor, his English teacher, as well as by Jim Valliere, his Automotive Technology instructor.

Connor and Valliere have been extremely impressed with Ryan and both stressed the growth and maturity they’ve seen in him over the years. Connor shared that she "couldn’t be more proud of him and his professionalism in class; he’s been organized and has worked hard on all his assignments, showing tremendous motivation."

Valliere has worked with Ryan these last two years and has seen him develop both personally and as a technician.

"He’s a team player and has a terrific work ethic, two very important qualities for success. He’s also very good at problem solving and working independently when diagnosing and making an automotive repair."

Ryan feels that he’s strongly benefited from his time at the Career Center.

"It gave me a reason to look forward to coming to school and gave me skills that will benefit me for my entire life -- such as learning electricity with Mr. Hotin, construction with Mr. Simeon, auto mechanics with Mr. Valliere, and even English with Mrs. Connor, where I developed my portfolio and improved my writing skills."

Ryan is currently employed at Stop & Go Oil Change on Putney Road in Brattleboro. His plans after graduation are to work full time for two or three years and then to pursue post-secondary education in diesel mechanics with the goal of working for a dealership or local garage.

The Automotive Technology program at the Career Center provides instruction in all facets of automobile repair and maintenance, including brakes, tires, suspension, steering, motor, electronics, wiring and engine performance. The program operates out of a state of the art dealership environment with the latest in diagnostic equipment.

The Windham Regional Career Center provides technical and career training for students from the following high schools: Brattleboro, Leland & Gray, Twin Valley, Bellows Falls, Hinsdale, N.H., as well as the Austine School.
