BRATTLEBORO -- American Legion Auxiliary has many scholarships available. They are:
for junior members
American Legion Auxiliary Spirit of Youth Scholarships for Junior Members are now being offered. Five scholarships in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded for the 2013-2014 Auxiliary year. One scholarship will be awarded in each Division of the American Legion Auxiliary. All are gift scholarships and are not loans.
Candidates for this award shall be or shall have been junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary. The member has to have held junior membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three years and must hold a membership card for the current (2014) year. The applicant must continue her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the four-year-scholarship period. Applicants must be in their senior year of an accredited high school.
Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship
Fifteen scholarships will be awarded for the 2013-2014 Auxiliary year. Three scholarships will be awarded in each Division of the American Legion Auxiliary: one in the amount of $3,500; one in the amount of $3,000; and one in the amount of $2,500. All are gift scholarships and not loans.
Candidates for this award shall be daughters, stepdaughters, sons, stepsons, grandsons, step-grandsons, granddaughters, step-granddaughters, great-granddaughters, step-great-granddaughters, great grandsons, step-great-grandsons of Veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in the American Legion.
Applicants must be in their senior year of high school and the scholarship must be used within 24 months of the date the winner receives notification by National Headquarters, or the scholarship will be forfeited. Applicants must complete 50 hours of volunteer service within the community, verified in writing by the recipient organization(s).
Five scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded in the 2013-2014 Auxiliary year. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in each Division of the American Legion Auxiliary. All are scholarships and do not have to be repaid.
Applicant must be a member of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion and shall have paid dues for the two preceding years and for the calendar year in which the application is made. The applicant must also be a non-traditional student returning to the classroom after some period of time in which his/her formal education was interrupted and/or a non-traditional student who is just beginning his/her education at a later point in life.
