BRATTLEBORO -- PAX, the Program of Academic Exchange is interviewing families interested in hosting one of the exchange students who will be attending Brattleboro Union High School this fall or a Spanish teen who will be visiting for several weeks this summer.

Among the incoming students are Safi from Indonesia, Naina from Pakistan, and Oche from Nigeria, all recipients of a prestigious Kennedy-Lugar YES scholarship from the U.S. State Department. Safi is a 17-year old girl who loves theater, choir and playing the guitar; Naina, 16, is active in community service projects and debate; and Oche is a 15-year old boy who loves soccer, computers and reading.

Host families need only provide a place for the student to sleep and study, meals, and a warm, supportive environment. Students have their own spending money and medical insurance. Single parents, young couples and empty-nesters are all encouraged to apply.

Host families are also needed for a group of Spanish teens who will spend 3 1/2 weeks in Vermont this summer, starting June 25. Interested families are asked to contact Ann Newsmith as soon as possible at 802-257-4710 or; information at
