BELLOWS FALLS -- The final meeting of the Bellows Falls Woman’s Club’s 2013-2014 club year will be held on Tuesday, May 13, at the United Church at 8 School St. The executive board will host a potluck luncheon beginning at noon. Officers and club directors for the next biennium will be installed by GFWC-VT Southeast Director, Dee Beckman. She and outgoing State President, Midge Tucker, will be guests for the luncheon and meeting.
The club sponsored the high school art show on April 8. Student art in nine categories was displayed and the members chose their favorite, Brady Illingworth’s drawing of a squirrel. Students in the Family and Consumer Science Department provided a luncheon for the club members. Chris Hodsden, school principal, was a guest.
On behalf of the students and faculty, Hodsden expressed thanks to the club for its many years of showcasing the students’ talent with the art show. Following the meal, the winners in the prejudged show were announced and first place winners and the club favorite winner were awarded monetary prizes. The afternoon concluded with entertainment provided by the jazz band and the chorus.
The club had a very successful year with varied and informative programs, fund-raising projects, community outreach and volunteerism.
The club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and, as such, was a part of the over four million volunteer hours reported by federated clubs to the organization in 2013, along with more than $3 million donated by clubs to worthy causes in our nation’s communities.
