WILMINGTON -- Officers of the Scottish Rite Valley of Southern Vermont, and officers of Social Lodge of Freemasons in Wilmington, who are also Scottish Rite Masons, took a few moments out of their business agenda on May 13 to present Peter Barton, the Lodge Secretary, with a 50-year service award in Scottish Rite.
Barton is a long time resident of the Wilmington area. He has also had an accomplished career in law enforcement starting as a state trooper, serving as Chief Investigator with the Vermont Attorney General’s office, later as investigator for the Bennington State’s Attorney and Chief of Police for Bennington. Since then he established the Barton Agency investigative and security services specializing in background checks.
The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry is a chivalric order representing an additional 29 degrees that a Freemason can choose to learn more about the philosophical part of Masonry, while also participating in other programs devoted to charity.
