WESTMINSTER -- Each year on Kurn Hattin Day, Kurn Hattin Homes for Children orchestrates a lively day of events with campus tours, a luncheon, and a concert performance to thank their donors and alumni for their kindness.

This year, the celebration was kicked off with a special award. Bellows Falls Rotary President Ed Dinnany presented the Rotary Lifetime Humanitarian Award to Kurn Hattin alumnus and former Executive Director David J. Maysilles. He was presented with a stunning portrait of himself painted by Rotarian Helene Champagne. The painting will hang in the Kelsey Room at the Mayo Memorial Center on campus, where the Rotary Club meets every Thursday morning. The Bellows Falls Rotary Club also presented Kurn Hattin with a generous check for $2,000.

First and second graders, Ciara McQueen and Dre-Shawn Cherbonneau (respectively) shared the role of master of ceremonies at the Let’s Go To The Movies 27th Annual Kurn Hattin Day Celebration. The children’s performance of song, music and dance were selected from several films and had the audience gleefully clapping and singing along with the performers to songs such as "Happy" from "Despicable Me 2," and "Greased Lightning" from "Grease." Special thanks also went to volunteers Chris Goding, Lindsey Soboleski, Janet Wilson, Scotty Tabachnick, and Linda and Jerry Bardwell (Class of 1973) who accompanied one of the children on guitar and vocals.
