BRATTLEBORO >> William LaPorte, a junior from Guilford, has been named the Windham Regional Career Center's October Student of the Month. He was nominated for this honor by two of his teachers, Sam Rowley, who has LaPorte in his Introduction to Horticulture class, and Bob Simeon, who has him in Construction Building and Framing.
Simeon and Rowley shared that they see LaPorte as having a number of positive attributes: he's respectful in class, has excellent attendance, and is a hard worker. They further mentioned that LaPorte is "willing to step up when tasks arise that other students may be hesitant to take on. He works well with other students and he works well independently, too."
It should be noted, also, that LaPorte's grades in all his courses are excellent. He has an interest in both construction and horticulture, but he feels that neither are a confirmed career path for him at this point. He's also considering college after he graduates, though he's still deciding about that as well. He shared that his Career Center courses are proving to be a good way to help him sort out his plans.
LaPorte is, though, certain of one thing, and that's that he aspires to earn a good, solid income when he's older. Judging by how well he's doing in his classes and the impression he's making on his teachers, that scenario is entirely possible.
LaPorte has a part-time job right now and is looking forward to winter, as he is an avid snowboarder.
