BRATTLEBORO -- Police are looking for the owner of a dog that last week bit a student at Academy School while he was running around the track with his teammates.

Animal Control Officer Cathy Barrows told the Reformer that the dog, described as large with brown curly or wavy hair, possibly a standard poodle, chased the group of runners as they were doing laps on Aug. 9 at about 7 p.m.

Witnesses said the dog’s owner, who was described as thin and about 5’6" tall with brown hair, has been seen often at the school’s soccer field with her two dogs off leash but no one knew who she was.

The student was bit on the upper thigh, but not hard enough to break the skin, Barrows said. He was treated on scene for minor scrapes and bite marks.

Barrows said after the incident, the woman immediately took herdogs, the other was described as "small and tan" and headed towards South Street.

"As soon as she had control of the dog again, the woman fled without telling anyone if it had been vaccinated," Barrows said. "That’s our biggest concern as this point."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Barrows at 802-257-7950.
