BRATTLEBORO -- First Baptist Church will be welcomed to the ecumenical service at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. Worship will be based on Joshua 24:1-2a, 14-18, read by Jane Clarke, where Joshua exclaims, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!" Pastor Cheryl Meachen’s sermon, "Commit!," will explore the serious commitment parishioners make when they say they will serve the Lord and the joy that it brings.

Eleanor Vanderpool will sing "For God So Loved the World" and the Methodist billowers, Mary Anne Deer, Leslie Kramsky, Jean MacLean and Betty Stacy, will present a liturgical dance with large bands of cloth to the "Servant Song."

There is still time to join the spiritual formation study in progress, "By Water and the Spirit: A United Methodist Understanding of Baptism," held Sundays at 8:30 a.m. For a ride, get the book, to arrange for child care or to sign up for the e-newsletter, e-mail fumc@sover.net, call 802-254-4218 or visit gbgm-umc.org/Brattleboro.

The church is located next to Renew Salvage at 18 Town Crier Drive off Putney Road, across from the Shell station. The church is handicapped accessible.
