BRATTLEBORO -- This Sunday is the Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Avenue in West Brattleboro. Rev. Joe Amico starts a sermon series on the New Testament Book of James. His sermon is "Be doers of the Word, and not merely hearers," based on James 1:17-27. Worship includes Holy Communion.

Organist George Soulos will play the church’s 111-year-old tracker organ. The Prelude will be "Andante Cantabile" by Giuseppe Tartini and Postlude "Chaconne in G Major" by Georg Handel. Flutist Lisa McClellan Lucius and soprano Alice McClellan will perform an offertory duet, "In Remembrance of Me" by Courtney and Douglas. Congregational Hymns will be "I Sing the Mighty Power of God," "As We Gather at Your Table" and "Give Up Your Anxious Pains." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play gathering music.

Sunday worship at First Congregational is at 10 a.m. There is child care during worship. Following worship there is a Lemonade Fellowship in the Fireplace Room hosted by members of the Diaconate. For those with disabilities, there is a ramp leading to the Sanctuary and Fireplace Room level, as well as large-print hymnals and bulletins.
