KEENE, N.H. -- September marks the beginning of the Ecclesiastical Year in the Orthodox Christian Church and commemorates the death of a Christian ascetic saint, Saint Simeon Stylites the Elder, a so-called "pillar hermit" who spent 40 years atop a pillar near Aleppo in Syria He died Sept. 2, 450.
At St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Keene, Sunday school classes resume Sept. 23 under direction of Beth Truman. Parishioners are also reminded that the church is collecting non-perishable food for the Community Kitchen. A donation box is located in Hellenic Hall.
Worship services are scheduled Sundays at 9:15 a.m. (matins) followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. and a fellowship hour. Visitors are welcome. St. George is located at 70 West St. in Keene.
