WEST BRATTLEBORO -- This Sunday is the Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Philip Nelson, a retired UCC minister and a member of the church, is the guest worship leader. His sermon will be "Jesus: the Biography," based on Mark 7:24-37, which describes two of Jesus’ healings.
Organist/Choir Director George Soulos will play the church’s 111-year-old tracker organ. The prelude will be "Air and Saraband" by Henry Purcell and postlude "Fantasie" by G.P. Telemann. The senior choir returns after having the summer off and will perform "I’ll Sing the Praise of Jesus" by Craig Courtney. Congregational hymns will be "When Peace Like a River" ("It Is Well With My Soul"), "My Faith It Is and Oaken Staff," and "Christian, Rise and Act Your Creed." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play gathering music.
Sunday worship at First Congregational Church is at 10 a.m. There is Sunday school during the worship hour for pre-school through grade 6, and child care for younger children. Following worship there is a fellowship hour in the Fireplace Room.
