GUILFORD -- The 2012-13 Sunday School season begins Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Guilford Community Church, U.C.C., with a rock version of "They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love" by the confirmation class band, the Sonic Sundaze. The class will also offer a mime version the "Parable of the Sower" for the other children as a kickoff for their study of parables for the fall.
As the fall continues, the children will collect offerings for the Reformer Christmas Stocking, help the Home Service Committee prepare meals for shut-ins and Guilford Cares with Thanksgiving boxes and also learn through Bible stories about what it means to show love for God and their neighbors.
The worship service will also include choir anthems, "All I Really Need" and "Planting Seeds of Love" under the direction of Andy Davis and other favorite hymns. Pastor Lise Sparrow will continue the theme of stewardship set for September, focussing on the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:1-23, as it relates to how people steward their children in faith and growth in love for each other and the earth. The teachers for the year will be thanked and blessed and a reception will be held after the church to allow everyone to meet and greet the teachers.
