WILMINGTON -- St. Mary’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church is hosting its 10th Annual Animal Blessing in celebration of St. Francis Day on Sunday, Oct. 7, starting at 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
A short service of thanksgiving and general blessing will be followed by individual blessings of each animal present.
"All types of animals are welcome, even teddy bears," said event organizer Patti Burke, "and if you cannot bring your animals, come anyway and we will bless them from afar."
Attendees who cannot bring their animal for whatever reason are invited to bring a photo to share instead.
The blessing takes place at The Sara Sellinger Community Support Center (formerly the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall), which is located on Route 100, three miles south of Route 9. Plenty of parking is available.
Refreshments for people and animals will be available and St. Francis items will be distributed. The event is free, however a donation basket will be available with all funds collected going to the Windham County Humane Society in Brattleboro.
Although the event is open to all, for their own protection animals must be on a leash or in a cage.
