BRATTLEBORO -- The Peace and Justice Committee of Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro will sponsor a 2012-2013 film series on issues of Social Justice. These events will be informative, interactive and explorative of some key issues with which people deal with on a daily basis. The event will be held at the Centre Church, 193 Main St., and is open to everyone in the community.
The first film in the series will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, with the completion of the film on Tuesday, Oct. 16. (Because of the length of the three target films, each will be viewed in two sessions.)
Part I, Oct. 2: "The Corporation," a 2004 documentary that details the historical development of corporate entities as they are known will be shown. Recalling the late 19th-Century law that declared that corporations have the same rights as individuals.
There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. and those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. The film will be shown at 6:30 p.m., followed by small discussion groups from 7:30 until 8 p.m.
Part II, Oct. 16: "The Corporation, Part II." This second session will finish what was started two weeks previous. This part of the film "performs a running psychoanalysis of this ‘entity.’ " In the light of the justice, participants are challenged by this film to ask "where do the rights reside?"
As with the Oct. 2 event, a potluck supper, the film and discussions will all take place
