WEST BRATTLEBORO -- This Sunday, Oct. 7, is World Wide Communion Sunday at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Joe Amico begins a sermon series on the Old Testament Book of Job. The sermon is "Taking the Bad With the Good" based on Job 1:1,2:1-19. The service includes Communion.
Organist/Choir Director George Soulos will play the church’s 111-year-old tracker organ. The prelude will be "Andante Cantabile" by Giuseppe Tartini, and postlude "Presto" by Benedetto Marcello. The senior choir will sing "Break the Bread" by Natalie Sleeth. Congregational hymns will be "In the Hour of Trial," "Bread of the World in Mercy Broken" and "The Voice of God is Calling." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play gathering music.
Sunday worship is at 10 a.m. Sunday School is held during the worship hour for preschoolers though grade 6, and child care for younger children. Fellowship hour follows in the Fireplace Room.
