BRATTLEBORO -- Oct. 14 is the 20th Sunday After Pentecost at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. Worship services are at 10 a.m. The Rev. Joe Amico continues with his sermon series on the Old Testament Book of Job. The sermon is "Does God Forsake?" based on Job 23:1-9;16-17.
Organist/Choir Director George Soulos will play the church’s 111-year-old tracker pipe organ. The prelude will be "Pastoral Symphony" from Handel’s Messiah, and postlude "Toccata in G Major" by J.S. Bach. The senior choir will sing an offertory anthem. Congregational hymns will be "In the Cross of Jesus I Glory," "Out of the Depths" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." Worshipers will also sing a Benediction Response, "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play gathering music.
Extensive renovation work has recently been completed on the church’s 15-rank tracker pipe organ, built in 1901 by J.W. Steere and Company. Lawrence Nevin restored the complete (internal and external) leather pneumatics and tubing on each note. This work was paid for by the church’s Memorial Gifts Fund.
Sunday school is held during the worship hour for preschoolers though grade 6, and child care for younger children. Fellowship hour follows in the Fireplace Room. For those with disabilities, there is a ramp leading to the sanctuary and fireplace room and large-print
