BRATTLEBORO -- The theme of worship on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church will be on scripture from Job 38:1-7, 34-41. It will be read by Lay Leader Douglas Reed. In this passage, God communicates with Job out of a whirlwind, describing God’s nature and majesty, having "determined the measurements" of the "foundation of the earth" and having the "wisdom to number the clouds," but never comforting Job or explaining why Job’s distress wasn’t relieved. Pastor Cheryl Meachen’s sermon will raise the question why and is entitled "Because I’m God, That’s Why." The church billowers will present a sacred dance waving long bands of cloth to the song, "Be Not Afraid," drawing the cloths prayerfully over the congregation in a deeply inspirational act bringing to mind the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Jean MacLean will explain how God is working through the church’s Stewardship Drive. Treasures at bargain prices will be available at the tag sale today from 8 a.m. to noon at the church.
