BRATTLEBORO -- Local Baha’is and their friends will join Baha’is around the world in celebration of the Birth of the Bab, the forerunner of Baha’u’llah, the Founder of the Baha’i Faith on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The celebration of His birth is one of 11 Holy Days in the Baha’i year. The Bab was born in the city of Shiraz in northern Persia (now Iran) in 1819.
His Mission was to prepare the people for the coming of a Universal Prophet who would usher in an era of peace and prosperity for all mankind. His followers were considered heretics by the Islamic government and thousands were martyred during His brief ministry. The Bab instituted a calendar which begins on the date of His declaration in 1844. The calendar consists of 19 months of 19 days and 4 or 5 Intercalary days between the last two months of the Baha’i year.
Area Baha’is will gather at a local restaurant to celebrate this Holy Day. Anyone who would like to attend, or to learn more about the Baha’i Faith, should call 802-254-2115 or visit the national website at www.usbahai.org.
