BRATTLEBORO -- A recognition of all members of the Silver Bells Society, Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro, will take place at 10 a.m. worship Sunday, Oct. 21. The Board of Deacons will honor those who have been members of the congregation for 25 years or more. This is an annual event that has been held in October since 1995. Marion Daley will lead the celebration. A reception, hosted by the deacons, will follow the service.

Members being added this year are Joanne Clark, Lisa Keller, Nan Mann and Laura Slate, bringing the total number to 111. Two names will be added to the Golden Bells Society (50 years and more), Martha Fenn and Isabelle Mann.

The Rev. Carra McFadden will lead worship and her sermon is "Extravagant Generosity: Remembering," based on the sermon text Deuteronomy 8:12-18. Kidz Club, under the leadership of Michael Mario, Director of Christian Education, will join in worship at the start, then adjourn to meet in the Christian Education wing.

The special offering for October is Neighbors in Need, which supports ministries of justice throughout the United States. A potluck dinner will be held at the home of Pastor McFadden at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to discuss issues of concern for the upcoming November election. All are welcome; bring a dish to share.

The fall meeting of Windham Union Association will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at First Congregational Church of Springfield,

Vt. Joanne MacLean of Centre Church will lead a hands-on workshop on how to make sleeping bags for the homeless shelters and their occupants. Materials will be provided.
