BRATTLEBORO -- Neil and Rosemary Stetson, missionaries with Baptist Haiti Mission, will be the guest speakers at Community Bible Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 21. The worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by coffee fellowship and the ministry presentation. The public is invited.
The Stetsons moved to Dummerston in 2001 from Colrain, Mass., where Rev. Stetson served for 18 years at the Colrain Community Church. The past 11 years he pastored Community Bible Chapel. During his tenure there, he and Rosemary led many Mission Work Teams to Haiti.
Neil and Rosemary are in the process of preparing for serving full time in Haiti. Neil will serve as chaplain to the mission staff, short-term teams and guests, as well as oversight of the mission facilities. Rosemary will serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Baptist Haiti Mission director. The mission headquarters is in Fermathe, Haiti, a small community in the mountains just south of Port au Prince. This station serves tens of thousands of people on a variety of levels. Housed at the mission are a hospital, several outpatient clinics, and a pharmacy. Over 300 students get an education at the school. There is a business incubator, where Haitians can market their products at fair market prices.
Teachers and pastors get training at the Institute. Several trades and crafts can be learned through an ongoing apprenticeship program. BHM is forefront in encouraging and helping
A core belief of BHM is not to do all this, but to train and assist the Haitian people. As a result most every ministry is lead and run by Haitians themselves. BHM staff serve as trainers, coaches and support for Haitian medical staff, teachers, craftsman, horticulturalists, and pastors.
BHM supports hundreds of schools, churches throughout the nation. Haiti remains the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Much has yet to be repaired from the earthquake, environmental, infrastructure, and government problems abound.
