WEST BRATTLEBORO -- Dec. 2 is the First Sunday of Advent at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Joe Amico’s sermon is "’Tis the Season ... of Love" based on I Thessalonians 3:9-13.
The worship service also includes Gathering Music by guitarist Jeff Brewer, Holy Communion, and The Lighting of the Advent Candle of Hope. Organist William McKim will play the church’s 111-year-old tracker pipe organ. The prelude will be "Prelude and Fugue in A Minor" by Brahms and postlude "Alleluia" by J.S. Bach.
The senior choir will sing "One Candle is Lit" for the offertory anthem. Congregational hymns include "O Morning Star, How Clear and Bright," "With Joy Draw Water" and "Love Came Down at Christmas."
Sunday worship at First Congregational Church is at 10 a.m. There is Sunday school during the worship hour for pre-school through grade 6, and childcare for younger children. Following worship there is a Fellowship Hour. At 11:30 a.m., this Sunday is a potluck luncheon during which members will continue discussion about whether or not to became an Open and Affirming church.
