GUILFORD -- Angels, shepherds and prophets will help celebrate the beginning of Christmas services on Sunday, Dec. 23, at Guilford Community Church, UCC. Ava Marie Pecor, who will also play the role of Baby Jesus, will be baptized at the beginning of the service and then all children will adjourn to don costumes for the service of lessons and carols used to tell the story of the birth of Jesus. The choir under the direction of Peter Amidon will weave anthems through the service, offering "Ave Maria," "O Come O Come Emmanuel," "Drummer Boy" and the "Watts Cradle Hymn."
There will be two Christmas Eve services on Monday, a family service at 4 p.m. and a traditional midnight candlelight service at 11 p.m. The 4 p.m. family service is designed to include children. Andy Davis will lead a choir in three carols and the congregation will share in lessons, carols and the lighting of candles to symbolize the birth of Christ.
The 11 p.m. candlelight service is a local tradition featuring a youth choir, favorite hymns and anthems and a jubilant brass band at midnight. Everyone is welcome. Guilford Community Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ and is fully handicapped accessible and will provide an ASL interpreter at the 4 p.m. service. It is located one mile south of exit 1 on Route 5 just in back of the Guilford Country Store. For more information call 802-257-2776 or check www.guilfordchurch.org.
