WEST BRATTLEBORO -- Jan. 20 is the Second Sunday after Epiphany at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Joseph Amico’s sermon will be "Mighty Fine Wine," based on John 2:1-11, the account of the wedding at Cana where Jesus turned water into wine.
Pianist William McKim’s prelude will be "Offertoire d’Etoile" by Boellmann and Postlude "Fugue in C" by Buxtehude. Under the direction of Steve Rice, the senior choir will sing the African-American Spiritual "I’m So Glad Jesus Lifted Me." Congregational hymns will be "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise," "I Sing the Praise of Love Almighty" and "Come, O Fount of Every Blessing." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play Gathering Music.
Sunday worship at First Congregational Church is at 10 a.m. During January, February and part of March worship will be in the church’s Fireplace Room. During the worship hour, there is Sunday School for preschool through grade 6, and child care for younger children. Following worship there is a Fellowship Hour in the Fireplace Room. Mary’s Closet, the church’s thrift shop with winter clothes for men, women and children, will be open on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Ongoing events include the Prayer Fellowship at 8:30 a.m. and Senior Choir rehearsals at 9 a.m. on Sundays, and the Handicraft group at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays.
